Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to witness a mass Bagurumba dance performance by around 10,000 performers in Assam on January 17, according to a PTI report quoting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The performance will be held as part of cultural events planned in the state, with the Bagurumba dance being a traditional folk dance of the Bodo community. The chief minister said the event is expected to be one of the largest coordinated performances of the dance form.
According to PTI, the programme is being organised to showcase Assam’s cultural heritage and is expected to draw participation from performers across different districts of the state. Preparations for the event are underway, including coordination with local authorities and cultural groups.
Bagurumba is traditionally performed during festivals and celebrations and is characterised by rhythmic movements accompanied by traditional musical instruments. The dance is considered an important expression of Bodo cultural identity.
The chief minister said the Prime Minister’s presence at the event would highlight the cultural significance of the performance, PTI reported. No details were provided on whether the event would coincide with any policy announcements or official meetings.
The report did not specify whether additional cultural or administrative programmes are scheduled during the Prime Minister’s visit, nor did it outline security or logistical arrangements for the event.
